What does it consist of?
The test is performed in an outpatient operating room and takes approximately 30 minutes. A mouthpiece is placed to protect the denture and, once placed in a comfortable position, the doctor inserts the endoscope, a long and flexible tube equipped with a light and a small camera at one end, through the throat until it reaches the upper part of the digestive tract under anesthesia and sedation. so it is a completely painless test.

Who is it for?
This test is performed for different reasons, including:
- The detection of polyps or precancerous lesions, to prevent them from leading to tumors, narrowing of the esophagus, hiatal hernias or gastric ulcers.
- The presence of signs or symptoms such as abdominal pain, pain when swallowing, unexplained weight loss, vomiting blood, burning stomach, among other stomach problems.
- Treatment of some stomach problems, by taking samples (biopsy) or removing abnormal tissues.

How should you prepare?
The stomach should be completely empty. Avoid eating solid and liquid foods from the night before.
The patient who is going to perform the test must inform the medical staff that he is going to do it, if he is taking anticoagulants (aspirin or other drugs), if he suffers from any significant heart or respiratory problem or any infectious disease of the type of hepatitis, etc.
