Helicobacter pylori breath test
What does it consist of?
This breath test measures the carbon dioxide produced by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. After an initial baseline measurement of exhaled air, the patient swallows a special solution containing a small amount of labelled urea. After a few minutes, they blow into a device that measures the amount of carbon dioxide in the exhaled air, which allows us to detect the presence of the bacteria. The whole process takes about 30 minutes and does not cause any discomfort to the patient.
