Echocardiogram
What does it consist of?
During the examination, the specialist moves the transducer over the part of the body to be studied, having previously applied a gel. This transducer sends sound waves (ultrasound) that “bounce” off the different organs and tissues of the body, forming an image that allows the structure and function of the heart to be analyzed and possible abnormalities to be detected.
Cases in which it is recommended
To whom?
An echocardiogram is necessary in the following cases:
- People who practice sports on a regular basis, both professional and amateur athletes.
- Patients suspected of the following pathologies: heart failure, cardiomyopathies, cardiac arrhythmias, valvulopathies, arterial hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias and congenital heart diseases, among others.
