The flu vaccination campaign is now underway in Catalonia. Dr. Gallardo, pediatrician at CreuBlanca, reminds us that “influenza is a common infectious pathology that leads to numerous emergency room visits, especially in children”. However, she stresses the existence of “a particularly vulnerable population that is at higher risk for serious complications, making vaccination a crucial option to consider”.
At Hospital CreuBlanca Maresme, we are accredited by the Institut Català de la Salut (ICS) to to provide free flu vaccinations for children aged 6 months to 5 years, as well as children up to 17 years of age with chronic high-risk conditions. We offer two types of vaccines financed by the Social Security:
- The injectable vaccine, recommended for children from 6 months of age.
- The intranasal vaccine, available for children between 2 and 5 years old, or up to 17 years old with chronic risk pathologies.
However, Dr. Gallardo advises that the best option is always to consult with your pediatrician to assess whether your child should be vaccinated and, if so, which type of vaccine is most appropriate.
For children over 5 years of age and parents who wish to receive the vaccine, it can be purchased at a pharmacy. Once you bring it to our center, our healthcare professionals will administer it, with the corresponding service fee.
